ISDN Services
Fairpoint Communications is under contract with the State of Vermont to provide 3 types of ISDN services.
The first is a single data (D) channel Basic Rate Interface (BRI) which is 144,000 bits per second and designed for the desktop. Telecommunications installs single D channel BRI at a customer’s request for a telephone which can support multiple telephone lines on the telephone set increasing the receptionists ability to answer multiple calls at once. This type of service is typically installed on the “Main Line” to the department/agency.
The second is also a BRI type ISDN line but includes two D channels which are primarily deployed with department owned video conference units. Many video conference systems require the capability to bond several BRI circuits together to achieve the data transmission speeds to support a good quality video conference session. As the SOV network continues to evolve, the idea is to migrate video conferencing away from costly BRI lines toward delivering that same quality video across the State Wide Area Network.
The third is a Primary Rate Interface which is 1,544,000 bits per second and designed for telephone switches and voice processing systems.
